The district of Görlitz is the third largest of the ten new districts in Saxony and is the most easterly district in Germany. It contains a total of 22 nature conservation areas that could not be more different. From the "Königshainer Bergen" to the "Niederspreer Teichgebiet", numerous nature trails also invite exploration. Of historical interest are the "Zittau Lenten Cloth" from 1472 and the typical "Upper Lusatian Umgebinde Houses", special types of houses characterised by different construction methods. Culturally, the district of Görlitz offers numerous events, such as the street theatre festival "Via Thea" in Görlitz, the "Sorbian Easter Riding" and countless museums and landscape parks. Economically, the district benefits above all from German-Polish-Czech economic relations in the metal construction, glass industry and renewable energy sectors due to its location. Agriculture is also a strong economic sector.
