The district of Zwickau is a district in the west of Saxony. It is the smallest district in the Free State in terms of area. The administrative centre of the district is the district town of Zwickau. The region offers a variety of sights. These include castles, recreational areas, art collections and museums. Historically, the region was shaped by mining from early on into the 20th century. The economic life of the region was also determined by automobile manufacturing, including the production of the Trabant and now VW brands. In addition to car manufacturing, logistics, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering are economically predominant in the Zwickau district today.
